Changing the stroller world, one consumer at a time!

What new color will I be for 2011?

Changing the stroller world, one consumer at a time? How? The answer is product feedback.

The most recent example I’ve seen of product feedback is a simple survey monkey survey. Last week, Baby Jogger posted this up on their facebook page.

Choose the 2011 colors of both the City Mini and City Select! Seriously? I proceeded to cast my vote and then threw it on my facebook page for my fans to do the same. I thought, brilliant! That’s fun for everyone! Especially if Baby Jogger ends up choosing the colors that you voted for! By the way, the inside scoop at Baby Jogger is that yes, they are listening to what consumers are saying and have promised to count the votes fairly and accordingly.

Of course, Baby Jogger isn’t the only company that has listened to consumer feedback. UPPAbaby has been very keen on listening to customers when it comes to re-designing products. For example, the 2009 model Vista had a slightly reclined seat back, which parents found they disliked. Also, the brake was hard to catch and received many complaints. There were enough consumers who spoke up that UPPAbaby, in a timely fashion, took these comments and decided to update the Vista with a full upright seat and an easy one click brake for 2010. Also, the complaint about a lack of snack tray on the Vista has resulted in a rumour that there will be one in 2011. If only Bugaboo would listen to this long standing complaint for the Frog and Cameleon strollers!

Bumbleride, also a company that listens to their customers, redesigned the sunshade on the Indie and Indie Twin strollers after complaints that it did not offer maximum coverage. The updated 2010 canopy fully covers the entire seat. Also, they brought back the front bumper bar for 2010 after complaints that the Indie and Indie Twin just weren’t the same without it!

It makes you wonder what 2011 has in store for this fun and dynamic industry. Will there be a blue or purple City Mini? Will Bugaboo follow in UPPAbaby’s footsteps and design and develop a snack tray? Only time will tell. We are still a long six months away from the 2011 stroller rollout, yet watch for news on product updates from all the ‘greats’ in the coming months!
