My adventures with the Tag a Long.
As my only child is three years old, unless we are out for the day, we usually forgo taking along our BOB Revolution. Since we were only stopping by a school fair for a few moments, I felt that in leiu of using the tag a long on a stroller I would use it on my person. The designer of the product and other customers mentioned that you could use it on your belt, and I figured I would try it.
Unfortunately the day I decided to use the tag a long, I wasn’t wearing a belt! Thinking I would get cute, I attached it to the belt loop of my jeans. Big mistake. Not only could I not get it off since the handle is just too large, when my kid wasn’t attached to it, I looked a bit goofy. Anyhow, there I am with the goofy looking blue tag a long attached to me running after my three year old son, wishing I had my BOB with me.
Now, besides this, I did realize right away that this product is genius. After trying for a few moments to teach him how to hold the tag a long he got the hang of it, and he did like it for a few reasons. He felt more independent it seemed, and a bit proud that he had his own ‘handle’ to hold that wasn’t my hand. Also, I liked it because my son likes to pull, but instead of pulling my arm, he was pulling me at the hip which kept me more steady on my feet and able to control where he was trying to take me. I think he liked it because he felt like a big boy. I could definitely see how using the tag a long would promote independence for a toddler who is just learning how to flex their solidarity. What a great versatile product! Even if later that day, in order to take it off, I had to cut open and sacrifice the belt loop on my jeans…I should learn my lesson and remember to wear a belt next time! Or else bring the BOB….
